Nell'ambito della rassegna del teatro in lingua Inglese al Teatro San Genesio, va in scena dal 4 al 9 Aprile 2017, l'opera incisiva e mordente di David Hare, The Secret Rapture, diretta da Michael Fitzpatrick e presentata da Wonderwall Entertainment, compagnia filantropica dedita alla promozione di eventi artistici e culturali.
Un anziano libraio muore nella sua casa nella campagna Inglese. Le sue due figlie giungono per sistemare le sue cose. Isobel che lo ha assistito nei suoi ultimi giorni, è socia di una piccola impresa di design e grafica. Marion, la figlia maggiore, è in politica ed è già un sottosegretario di Stato. Nel suo lavoro Marion deve fornire risposte e sostenere coloro che offrono soluzioni; ma non tutte le situazioni umane cedono ad un approccio così professionale, meno che mai quando coinvolgono la loro giovane matrigna, Katherine.
Scritta nel 1988, The Secret Rapture è una commedia di maniere mordente che si addentra in un'analisi spietata delle conseguenze che derivano dall'applicare un pragmatismo di principio ai sentimenti umani.
Quest'opera di Davide Hare ancora molto attuale, colpisce e tocca l'animo in profondità, molto più di altri suoi lavori; come ritratto dei nostri tempi, questa storia è letale e puntuale.
Autore pluripremiato, Sir David Hare è stato definito "uno dei grandi drammaturghi Inglesi del dopo guerra".

An elderly antiquarian bookseller has just died at his home in the country. His two daughters come to attend to things. Isobel, who has been nursing him, is a partner in a small design firm. Marion, the elder daughter, is in politics – already a junior minister. It is Marion's profession to provide answers, and to support those who offer solutions; but not all human situations yield to such a professional approach – least of all when they involve their younger step-mother, Katherine.
Written in 1988, this elegantly constructed play, a mordant comedy of manners deepens into a painfully unsparing examination of the consequences of applying principled pragmatism to human feelings.
